Hi Noobs!

11/19/08
So ridiculous but me and Elder Craven whitewashed another area together. I'm in 4th ward in Lubbock that's where I was when I was in the office. My new address is:

Elder Blake Theo Porter
3201 W. Loop 289 #103
Lubbock, TX 79407

Just saying hi lol it was the weirdest transfer ever. I had a follow up w/ a Dr. and he said I don't have active mono anymore so that's good.

Hey Family

11/17/08
So I just found out that Elder Craven and I are whitewashing into 4th ward! So ridiculous like we turn 2nd South into a good area with progressing people and now office elders are going there and w are covering where they were. Also we'll be in a threesome with a kid who's struggling, he actually came out with E. Craven 9 months ago and went home after like a week in Texas. He just came back this transfer and I guess he's still struggling. President must think we did ok if he's keeping us together, but I personally don't understand. I just hope the area keeps going good, it's so hard to leave investigators, I hate that.
So I dunno if you want to just write to the office I dunno what my neew address will be. I'm in Lubbock still. I saw a doctor last week cause I'm pretty sure my mono relapsed, he is gonna check my antibody levels and see if I"m still fighting it I guess. didn't want to rest anymore tho I hate being sick.
I got the deer jerky it was really good, tell Ryan good work :). I'm glad Ali liked her Flowers.
One good thing is since I was in the office I kind of know 4th ward, so hopefully I can force the members to help us. We also will have a car so that is also good. Blah I don't want to move again. Lol I hope someday I can stay in an area like in Plainview past few months I just feel that once things pick up I leave. Maybell's baptism got pushed back a couple weeks, which is lame. I guess she was going to Mexico or something, I miss Plainview. At least I know the missionaries coming into 2nd south are good, they better do good I don't think I've had to force my body to work more than these past 6 weeks, I hope I get over the mono better with the car.
We call the missionaries in Lubbock, went over to Sis. Ernest's for a farewell party for Elder Scadden (?) and Elder Glover. She makes good Brownies, way nice of her. I feel bad cause sister's are gonna be in our apartment. Like it's improved since I got there, but I'll feel bad for girls living in some diaper lol. I have to finish the BofM by Wednesday and I thought i had longer, still in 3 Nephi so I better get reading. Tell Sharon hi, I'll try to write her back, but this week is absolutely insane. We're gonna go get get some pictures on some horses in a park today, so that should be fun. I miss my nieces and nephews :(

Hi Brother!

11/16/08
I heard about the great deer hunt ha ha pretty epic. Yes, I definitely expect deer jerky. :) Halloween was lame, we had to be in by 6 and couldn't even hang out with other missionaries. Nothing to crazy going on, just back to work again. One cool thing is Maybell in Plainview is getting baptized this Saturday, pretty cool that someone we found and taught is getting baptized. Sad that I couldn't be there for it, stupid mono! Hopefully Hector will stop drinking and get baptized too, cause it seems she'll just go LA if he never get baptized either. I bet in Argentina, just like here, the women were a lot more spiritual and had less problems than the guys. Girls tend to just have more natural faith it seems like.
Our area here in Lubbock is picking up tho, we have a cool guy Frank that will get baptized if/when he stops smoking and Chris is going to the singles ward and I think they'll baptized him. It was hard to give Chris to the singles branch Elders, but that branch will help a a lot, it was the right thing.
I do have this feeling tho that I'll always just whitewash in and than find people, leave, and some other noub will baptized them ha ha. I don't mind except I have never seen someone go from A to Z, it will be cool when I do tho.
2nd ward is pretty cool tho, like they started this new thing that with our really serious investigators they get them to 7 families in 7 weeks. So like ward missionaries will have faimilies call and invite Frank to FHE or dinner or just some activity and then we go too. It'll be great I think to get the ward fellowshipping these kids.
So have you been watching football? Texas Tech is dominating, the past 2 games the town has been nuts. That university is like the only cool thing about Lubbock lol. It'd be sweet to see them go all the way to the championship. Everyone and their dog goes tailgating, we had a few less people in sacrament yesterday because oft he game the night before. That's west Texas ha ha.
P-days are fun for like half the day than I just get bored. I'm supposed to take a nap everyday but I hate it cause I feel more tired. That's what just happened now I"m gonna get ready to go out. Tell Sarah and Davey and Nathan hi, I miss ya'll a lot.

Halloween in Lubbock, November 3, 2008

Hi Family,

So I was wandering, do I have a mission plaque? I don't recall ever telling you a scripture for it or anything. I don't know what's on it. Just wondering. So this was the lamest Halloween ever. We had to be in by 6 and couldn't hang out with any missionaries. Way lame, but the weekend has been crazy cause Tech beat Texas and it was a big deal like the campus was covered with kids, pretty fun looking, of course I couldn't partake.

So how are things? Things are good here. We had 3 investigators at church yesterday, so that was cool. My favorite tho is teaching Pei Ming and his son Zehru (?). They are just way nice and it's fun cause they have no concept of Christianity, it is hard tho cause they go to a Baptist Chruch right by their apartment that has a Chinese congregation, how can we compete with that?LOL, cause his wife knows like no English. They love learning and he's understanding way good, like he helps us teach his son, it's cool.

I still can't believe Colton came home from the MTC, I hope he's doing ok, like that could be really hard to deal with. I know it affected Shawn for a long time, still probably does a little. We just had a kid come from a service mission and I guess he went to the MTC 2 times and couldn't handle it. So he can still come out nothing's impossible.

Well just saying hi.

The Sweetest Missionary BF EVER

Blake is the best, especially when it comes to giving gifts and spoiling me. For my birthday he sent me and my twin sister Texas Tech shot glasses (commemorative of turning 21) and he sent me a big box of booster packs from the new Shards of Alara edition in Magic the Gathering. I cannot wait to play with him and his new decks when he gets back. He also sent me flowers that arrived on my birthday (so cute!).

I thought I'd share his birthday message to me since I meant to bring it to the wonderful dinner the Porter's had for my birthday - you guys are the best :)

Happy Birthday Ali! :)
So my package will probably get to you early, but I hope you like it! These cards are the brand new edition and they seem really awesome! I thought it was only fair to get you a box since I got myself a box :) They have mythic rares now that are red symboled and are even better than golds. There are also Planeswalkers which are really powerful. You'll have to read online how to use them if you get some cause their rules are unique. :) I sent all my cards to my parents you'll have to check out the decks in the sleeves and the Futuresight + Eventide boxes, those 6 are my best. Happy Magic Playing! Mwah!

I really wish I could take you out somewhere really nice, 21 is the best age, after that you're just really really old ha ha! My halloween was so diaper, what did you do? We couldn't even hang out with other missionaries. The town has been crazy tho cause this weekend Texas Tech beat #1 Texas in football so Tech is doing really good and they had huge tailgates up by Tech all weekend. I really wish I could've gone, looked exciting.

Well nothing too exciting going on here really. Elder Craven is a good companion but has no idea how to be a senior or be bold at all. I still think we will have really good success, especially if we stay here another transfer. Elder Pearson of the Seventy challenged our mission to double transfers, so we gotta get busy lol.

21 was a great age tho, that's when I met you! Yay! :) Also that's when I graduated college. Good times I hope you had an awesome birthday cutie pie! I love you soo much! Hope you is happy! :)

P.S. The manga is for Tashi but if she doesn't like it you should read it :) Shot glasses are to commemorate y'alls 21st Bday, if you drink alcohol I'll be pissed tho lol :) Manga is sensored [sic] which is lame, but remember to read it backwards!

Letter of October 24, 2008 Firefighter Elder Porter

Hi Parents!

I am glad to hear that ya'll shot a deer, I expect lots of deer jerky asap:) . So Elder Craven is from Tremonton, Utah, well actually Thatcher, but no one knows where that is. He's cool though. I've served around him my whole mission pretty much so far. He's like Elder Tripp in some ways, both kinda metro and like the same things. We are in the 2nd South Ward, so not in Sister Ernest's ward. This ward is pretty nice tho, I like it more than 4th Ward. 4th is just too rich. We have a lot of work, this area has been whitewashed out the past 3 companionships, and the missionaries just before us didn't put anything in the area book. It's taken 2 weeks just to contact all their investigators like we called one of them and literally had to follow a treasure map to find an investigater because they didn't have the address, ugh, so noob.

O but yesterday was cool, I'm definitely a big hero. We were visiting a member and when we left his apartment I noticed a fire on soneone's deck. I was like "Is that a fire?"LOL. The member, who's older, was like no that's just their BBQ, LOL. We got the bottom neighbor to call the fire department and then we ran around and up to the apartment with the deck. We knock and like it felt like a door approach as this college girl sees we're missionaries and kinda rolls her eyes. I'm trying to tell her that her deck is on fire, but she can't hear me over her dogs and through the screen door, and I tell her and she's freaking out now and like runs around. Luckily her bottom neighbor that we told got a garden hose. But ya in like 5 more minutes it would've been an inferno, Dad would've been proud. LOL

It's sad to hear about Colton, (Colten came home from the MTC this week) hopefully he stays real active. That'd be hard to live with especiall in Utah. I know how it feels to have all your friends on missions and live in a weird society where the mission is everything. I hope he'll be ok and that'd be cool if he went back out. This month we've had 2 missionaries come back out that went home for similar reasons, so he can do it.

Things are going pretty good. I'm not getting completely destroyed riding my bike so that's good.:). Oh, Magic is officially banned so I'll send my cards home next week. Lame sauce (?) Now I'll have to play sports all the time, headed by one of our Assistants, kinda lame. Ha,Ha. I just got new cards! Thanks for the B-day list although I think I knew mine and Ali's :).

Love you guys,
Elder Blake Theo Porter

October 21, 2008

HI Sharon and Family!

So it's really nice being out of the office.  I got whitewashed into an area again and the missionaries before us where...not the best they didn't even write down half their investigators.  But I'm on a bike so that's different not having a car, guess it's supposed to help me get over mono faster? ha ha
The zone leaders are in our ward, 2nd ward in Lubbock, and we were eating at a member's last night and their little baby boy reminded me of Drew so much, I almost called him "Druga" LoL.  I miss all of you a lot I hope I can visit again while you're in San Diego Although ya'll will probably be somewhere else.  I liked San Diego though, I heard you are getting like homesick again ha ha maybe you should move to Utah silly sister, at least for a little while :-).
So I got a CD from Ali with music/noises that are scientifically supposed to help one sleep, it works way good for my companions, like Elder Craven my new comp. falls asleep instantly, but it doesn't help me Lol.  I like listen to the whole thing every night.
We have a couple of cool investigators though.  Pei Ming and his wife Tong Tong are from Bei Jing and it's fun teaching them.  he knows a lot more English than her, but still it's like we go slow.  He's smart tho and understands everything once we get thru the language barrier.  We haven't gotten to teach their son yet, or his wife much, but PeiMing said ti'd be "no problem" to get his family, he's super nice.  They live right next to a restaurant the "Beijing house" and I asked if he ever ate there and he said he had his wife so he had no reason to Lol.
We also have Chris who was a media referral, he requested a Book of Mormon.  He like is really teachable and believes the BoM and things we teach it just doesn't' really sink in yet he want to keep going tot he Lutheran church which he just got active in again.  But once he gets a testimony he'll understand, but he's single so we'll be farming him over to the singles branch Elders anyways.  We have a couple of other good leads and investigators too, it's just hard biking everywhere cause we have a huge area.
It's nice being in the city though, we go up to Texas Tech to email and it's the only time I feel like I'm in a city ha ha.  We'll just saying hi, use the return address on this letter or just the mission office, office will just get to me a couple of days later.  Thanks for the awesome drawings, Savannah and Michael and Taylor and Drew.  ya'll are growing up way too fast :-) I love all of you thanks for writing, tell Mark hi for me.
