Hi Mom and Dad,
Well I'm still alive in the TLM (Texas Lubbock Mission), just barely though:) So I bought a lot of Magic cards on P-Day this week, I'm an addict, but it's ok because so is everyone in the office, and this zone in general. LOL.
So it's way different going to a ward vs. a branch as a missionary. It's really nice because we get fed like daily, whereas we were lucky to get one meal in Plainview. But branches are nice cause you know everyone really well. Like there isn't as much help as in the ward, but I know everyone by name and get to know them a lot more personally.
The office is so different, like it's fun I think, but at the same time I don't feel like a missionary at all. In theory we have 3 hours each night to proselyte, but random stuff always comes up so we never get to really, just have to do odd jobs and errands all the time. It's good times though, but I really don't get why I'm sitting here for a couple weeks cause I can't take naps. Oh well, I guess President knows best.
But sounds like things are going awesome back home. I will try to write more. It's hard cause I "sleep in" till 9 cause President told me to, but then I have weird study hour and no time in the morning. O well I guess strictly speaking we're only supposed to write on P-Day. O ya, I got your package! Thanks for the beef jerky, and the biggest bottle of vitamins in the world. Now I have 2 big bottles of multi-vitamins. ha ha. I'm sure I'll get better twice as fast. :)
So sad story, a missionary went home a new kid I guess. He tried to committ suicide. His trainer is probably heart broken too cause it's his like first time to train and he's almost done. It is sad how much pressure a mission can put on someone, but hopefully he has an awesome family like me :) So funny on Sunday we went and had dinner at this members house, like the dad works in theROTC as a recruiter, and his 2 kids like are raised so wound up. We were all sitting on his couch (all 6 of us) and he wanted his little girl to lay across us for a pic. and we're like, uh, we can't have a girl lay on our laps. LOL. So he laid her on the coffee table and like was dictating how she had to pose for the pic. He was just annoying and rude, poor kids like they are super rich but they just force their kids to do stuff. Like she ws trying to be cute and he's like "No put your arm like this, if you keep acting silly you will go to your room and not get a picture." I wanted to tell him to chill out. Anyways good times.
So one of the Assistants came out with us to visit a less active. He's from Oderville, Ut. and this family was from Panguitch, Ut. So he really connected with them, they knew like all the same people and sutff. It was funny cause he'd dated all these girls from Panguitch, ha, ha, funny. They taliked for like 1 1/2 hours while we just kinda sat there, it was funny though to hear all the small town Utah stuff. Well, I'm done writing, Love ya"ll! Thanks for writing and tell everyone hi! Hopefully I can write them.

9/10/08 (letter to Sharon and Family)
Hey Sharon and Family,
Ya so I decided that I have lymph cancer, I hear you can get it from mono sometimes, you'll have to ask Mark about it, I don' t want it to spread to quick. (I don't understand why he thinks he has cancer. I asked Mark he never heard that.)
Ya the office is kinda cool. Like it's fun there's six of us instead of the usual four cause one Elder is still getting trained by the old financial secretary. My current companions, until Monday when I supposedly go back, are Elder Scadden (?) and Hewitt. I knew Scadden before my mission a little bit, he's from Farmington and we went to the same institute, where I went with Nate. Elder Hewitt is from Canada, he has leg clots that got worse on his mission, so he's going to be in the office the rest of his mission, so almost 2 years. That's be hard case the office is fun, but you aren't like a normal missionary, Sunday is the only full proselyting day. So it's like different.
The ward here is pretty cool, makes me feel back in Utah with such a big group. Everyone that's young is like here for law school it seems like LOL. None of them, except one, seemed excited to be a lawyer LOL, it'll be awesome to be some hippie lawyer I think :-)
the kids looked so cute, Taylor looked so big! Man it'll be crazy to see how they've changed. Michael looked very cool in his shorts too. Savannah a flirt? No way...LOL She'll be good at piano just like Michael. I really wish mom forced me to play, I wish I knew how especially on the mission. Learning how to read music would help to learn guitar too which I want to do when I get back.
It seems like it just started cooling down, like at least lately cause of some rain. we've recieved. Man really nothing to talk about, like I have no job in the office. O ya we hauled a mattress in here so I can take a nap. :-) So that's better cause I han't taken a nap over a week and I feel crappy sometimes. Hmm mom asked me a couple of question, I can't remember...maybe a nap will help remember... Nope I don't remember.
I don't know if I'll go back to Plainview, cause they may need me to go with someone else here in Lubbock. It'd be lame not to go back to Plainview and say goodbye, but at the same time I kinda am just done with it Lol. One of our investigators Matthew, he's Paul's grandson, called me and said he missed me lol. He's a cool kid I know he'll be baptized, too bad I most likely won't be there, but it's nice that we were able to find/teach him.
Well things really aren't too crazy, I miss you all and hope things keep going awesome for ya'll I'll ttyl

Letter September 1, 2008
Hi Family,
Quick letter to tell you I'm getting transferred to Lubbock for 2 weeks to stay in the office. So if ya'll write, write to the office. This is cause I'm still really tired. President thinks I can rest there better and get me to a better doctor. It's really annoying but well, whatever.
Love,
Elder Blake Theo Porter
